I use brass bore brushes. Around the forcing cone, I use nylon bristle brushes. The ones with a large and small brush on opposite ends. I just looked at my 642. There's a tiny bit of crud in spots around the base of the forcing cone. I don't worry about getting it perfect. Every time I shoot a gun, even once, I clean it. Do not use Remington Thunderbolt 22's. That being said, I love my Victory. I cleaned it after each day at the range by completely field stripping it and some Hoppe's #9 and a drop of Rem oil on the spots shown in the manual. Don't worry so much about the take down screw, just snug it by hand and you'll be fine. The early 66 no dash is a great cornerstone for a SS S&W collection or someone who collects Combat Magnums because it was the first and has unique features only found on those early guns from the first few years. The 66 was introduced around the middle of the 19-3 run so has the same evolution of features. Each revision is unique for certain . All I use are ramrodz swabs to clean the cylinder and bore and a paper towel to wipe of the exterior. I put 175 light powder coated lead reloads through my 929 today and it cleaned up just fine with CLP. Unless a bore has a bunch of lead fouling I don't use a bronze brush. I use Hoppes Elite solvent and a nylon brush on the cylinder of my 929.
