Egoiste is one of my favourite scents in my collection. It exudes of class but also smells like nothing else out there (and I truly am after the fragrances that hold their own and smell like nothing else out there). To me, of all the Chanel perfumes for men, this takes the cake. The Vintage forum is here and has plenty of information on current and past versions of Egoiste. Also, I agree that the current version of Egoiste is actually quite good and close enough to the original. It's at least worth a sniff at a Chanel counter if you haven't already.

In my quest for a signature scent (a now year-long, painstaking process with LOTS of trial and error involved), I decided to sample Chanel Egoiste. There was something really quite alluring about this fragrance. If you're referring to Egoiste EDT (not the Platinum version), its first 20-30 mins. is mostly sharp citrus and rosewood. Then, it develops into a smooth floral, spicy, woodsy, and semi-sweet vanilla scent.
Egoiste Platinum by Chanel is a Woody Floral Musk fragrance for men. Egoiste Platinum was launched in 1993. The nose behind this fragrance is Jacques Polge. Top notes are Lavender, Rosemary, Neroli and Petitgrain; middle notes are Geranium, Clary Sage, Galbanum and Jasmine; base notes are Oakmoss, Vetiver, Cedar, Sandalwood and Amber. It’s definitely not what it once was, but given how far many fragrances have fallen, they’ve done a solid job of making sure it still smells like egoiste. I think it’s actually better in the new style bottles as compared to the fully rectangular ones with the concentration under Chanel. Platinum Egoiste is one I like, especially the early development, although the base can be challenging during some wearings. For Bleu de Chanel, I like the edp quite a bit more than the edt. I like the opening of the edt, but rarely enjoy a full wearing.
