Hey Guys. I have a Nickle Plated Swiss Eta 2836-2 Modified to Rolex Calibre 3187 that I pulled from an old GMT Master II that I bought from Andrew. December 28th 2023 - Added info about the mod that converts a VS3235 into a 3230 movement (i.e. the phantom date fix mod). January 12th 2024 - Added information about the new "4131" Daytona movement from AR+F, and the .
Question on Asian clones
While it's not a "real" GMT movement like genuine Rolex Caliber 3185 or ETA 2893-2 it functions and serves its purpose perfectly and is much cheaper to purchase. The screwdown crown is small, tiny and bitch in the GMT master.
If I'm not mistaken isn't the GMF movement also basically a 2836 clone with modified GMT module to achieve CHS and jumping hour hand? Or is it closer to the replicated movements that were released from ARF and VRF..?
I would stick with a real ETA 2836 version and enjoy the watch for a few years while you make up the decision to buy the real one. The other option is have Misiekped (Mike) put in a SH3135 modified to a 3186 and get a keeper!
