The drydown smells similar to Versace Man Eau Fraiche. That's where all the freshness is. I'm not sure what YSL was trying to do putting such a strong and loud note on top of a fresh drydown. Great scent, YSL Y and Sauvage are really really popular for a reason. Both great performers as far as lasting power and projection, both have mass appealing compliment getting smells. If wearing it for a date though make sure not to overspray. Can be a little overpowering, especially Sauvage.
People in the fragrance world complain about it being overly synthetic but I’m not bothered by it. It’s masculine but not overly musky which makes it applicable to any situation and any age. It’s mass appealing and my personal favorite of the big blue fragrances.
