The AD probably learned from your response that you are truly buying for yourself and won't flip. I think it was a good move on your part. The proof is that your AD offered to put you on the list for a GMT of your choice.

I got mine in early November 2021 after being put on the wait list in late February 2021. It was through an AD where I've bought a lot of other stuff. I bought a few Rolex watches from my family owned AD before things got crazy in terms of demand. I had a respectable Rolex collection and while new things were coming out that I was interested in, I wasn't interested in waiting months or years. Goldsmiths aren't the best company to deal with to be honest...I love teasing my local one by wearing my Daytona and without them seeing it ask what the wait list is like for a Daytona..!!
