Slate looks more like a matte dial where rhodium looks more like a sunburst dial. Or think of it as slate is a poorer sounding pressing of the same vinyl album. Side-by-side the rhodium looks dynamic and fascinating while the slate looks muted and dulled by comparison.Personally, I only like the Wimbledon dial in a two tone configuration. It gives it a little more . I think kaien is right; if you go to the Rolex website and compare the DJ41 slate and DR (they’re next to each other on the “configure Dial thing”) it appears that slate is a shade lighter. I’ll be getting a ‘Rhodium’ YM in a couple of weeks and I want to verify that the color (shade) is the same in the newly named Slate. I know there was some discussion as to whether Rolex actually used Rhodium dust in the paint, but I don’t really care about that as much as the actual color. What’s the difference between dark rhodium and slate grey? I was looking at my friends new Wimbledon DJ and he told me that it was a slate grey dial. I have a DJ dark rhodium diamond dial and to me they look exactly the same.The blue dial introduces a striking contrast against the platinum bezel, while the slate option exudes a refined, monochromatic aesthetic. A year ago, I found myself in a dilemma, trying to decide between the two. I’ve tried most of the non-diamond dial configs on and rhodium is the best. I think it is the stand out dial on the SS 41. Black is always nice but the majority of sports watches have black dials.
I think Rolex using "Rhodium" in their marketing is supposed to mean the watch dial has the look of Rhodium. If it actually contained the element (AtNo 45) the watch would be ridiculously expensive. Some say the Rhodium dial is 'lighter' and more 'silvery'. Others say the Rhodium dial is 'darker'. Do you think the historic platinum dial or the new rhodium is better?
