The fact that they shamelessly copied CWC watches (and used the confusing MWC name) was not why they are widely despised. It was because of their repeated false claims that their watches were issued to military units around the world.
Marathon watches, whose navigator and field models were issued to US forces into the 1990s, still engraves NSNs on their commercially available watches.
