I advanced the GMT hand to 3 o'clock position, then removed the crown (to avoid moving/pushing) but this allowed the balance wheel to move again advancing the hand (unnoticed) while I fiddled around with hour hand.
From a visual perspective, the error in the hour hand placement will not look as bad when the minute hand is centered at top dead center (60) as the hour hand only moves 30 degrees for every 360 degrees the minute hand moves.
I have read in another forum that the hour hand can be misaligned when the minute hand is at the 12 o'clock position. The best way to check is at 6 o'clock when the hour hand should point directly at 6.

Yes, the misalignment is somewhat inconsistent across the dial, it is in the range of 4 to 6 minutes for the hour hand to behind. However, should the hour hand be moved forward by say 5 minutes, the misalignment variation would then fall into just -1..+1 minute which should be virtually unnoticeable as that will be just 1/12 of a minute point .
